So it’s been forever and a year since I last sat down with this site and that’s mostly because there’s been very little going on… so we shall say it was for good reason I’ve been quiet. Since January it’s been a little bit different and I think it’s times for a quick update.
Now don’t panic, we aren’t in a stage of major concern but more exploration. There is an area in my lung that has never fully disappeared. For most of this journey it’s been pretty inactive and just hanging there to keep things interesting. Since January it’s been something we’ve decided to take a little more seriously as the activity has become a tad more noticeable on the scans with it fluctuating in size, so we are paying attention.
Wednesday, July 5th I am heading down to Penn to have a wedge resection. Now that sounds all fancy and I guess it could be a bit daunting when you really think about it, but I’m keeping it light! He’s going in and removing this area of nuisance. This is to 1) have the tissue to biopsy for any information that might adjust my treatment and 2) potentially remove the only area of active disease. Short term goal is answers to hit the long term goal of continued treatment success.
According to our discussions, other than pain, my recovery shouldn’t be too terrible. Two night stay then home doing most normal tasks as I’m able. He doesn’t want me to stay in bed but he suggested I hold off on cleaning the gutters! Obviously only doing what’s comfortable but at least I’m doing.
I know some of you are thinking how can I help, what do you need? and as of right now, I couldn’t answer that question. If that changes I’ll make sure we reach out. Otherwise, stay tuned and keep those positive thoughts on hand 💜
