Our First Event

On Sunday, August 20th I was joined by 20 other amazing people to participate in Central PA’s Free to Breathe 5K Walk/Run.  It was an awesome morning!  We looked great all in the same shirts and over half of us with Hero Capes!

As a team we raised a shocking $5,125…  I was blown away by all the donations to us.  It was pretty neat being both the top team and myself being the top individual.  My dad was also in the top 5 individual fundraisers!

When this all first hit us I sort of had this idea in my mind that I wasn’t going to be “that person”, pushing all the lung cancer, donate to this, buy that stuff to all my friends and family.  Now that I’m seeing how the funds are actually going to benefit me directly through the research being done, it’s hard for me to ignore the local events and opportunities to bring awareness and funds.  Since I was diagnosed (a little over six months ago) testing and trials have brought one more drug to my immediate list of available options and I believe four more are in the trial stages.  None of that would be possible without those who are gathering every penny possible.

I want to thank everyone again for the love and support with this event.  I promise you there will be more of this kind of stuff to come….  for years and years!!!  I might even find the motivation and crew to start something of my own!

Here are the various photos from the day!

  1. Don’t worry about being “that person”. “That person” is going to change the world some day. 🙂 Great job!
